1. Introduction

Fenrock is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals who use our facilities, with particular focus on children, young people, and vulnerable adults. This Safeguarding Policy outlines the measures and procedures we have implemented to fulfil our duty of care towards our patrons and staff members. We are dedicated to creating an environment that fosters trust, respect, and personal development.

2. Purpose

The purpose of this Safeguarding Policy is to:

  1. Promote awareness of safeguarding concerns among staff, volunteers, and visitors.
  2. Provide guidance on recognising and reporting safeguarding concerns.
  3. Establish a framework for responding to and managing safeguarding incidents.
  4. Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.

3. Scope

This policy applies to all staff, volunteers, contractors, and visitors of Fenrock Bouldering Centre, including but not limited to members, guests, coaches, and spectators.

4. Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Fenrock Bouldering Centre Management:
  • Ensure the implementation and regular review of the Safeguarding Policy.
  • Designate a Safeguarding Officer responsible for overseeing safeguarding matters.
  1. Safeguarding Officer:
  • Act as the primary point of contact for safeguarding concerns.
  • Provide support and guidance to staff and volunteers on safeguarding issues.
  • Maintain records of safeguarding incidents and ensure appropriate action is taken.
  1. All staff and volunteers:
  • Familiarise themselves with the Safeguarding Policy and adhere to its guidelines.
  • Attend safeguarding training as required.
  • Report any safeguarding concerns to the Safeguarding Officer.

5. Recognising and Reporting Safeguarding Concerns

  1. Signs of potential safeguarding concerns include, but are not limited to:
  • Unexplained injuries or bruises.
  • Fear or anxiety around certain individuals.
  • Inappropriate or sexually explicit language or behaviour.
  • Sudden changes in behaviour or emotional state.
  1. If a safeguarding concern arises, staff or volunteers should:
  • Remain calm and reassure the individual that they are being taken seriously.
  • Listen attentively, without making judgments or asking leading questions.
  • Report the concern to the Safeguarding Officer as soon as possible.

6. Responding to Safeguarding Concerns

The Safeguarding Officer will assess each reported concern and take appropriate action, which may include:

  1. Providing advice and support to the individual affected.
  2. Consulting with relevant external agencies, such as social services or the police.
  3. Implementing a risk assessment and management plan to address the issue.

7. Confidentiality and Record Keeping

All safeguarding concerns and subsequent actions will be documented and stored securely. Confidentiality will be maintained at all times, with information only shared on a need-to-know basis.

8. Review

This Safeguarding Policy will be reviewed annually, or as required by changes in legislation or organisational practice, to ensure its continued effectiveness in safeguarding children, young people, and vulnerable adults at Fenrock.
