It is our duty to ensure that all climbers understand the inherent risks of the sport and that they take necessary precautions to protect themselves and others. Before you sign a waiver and engage in bouldering at Fenrock, please read the following conditions of use carefully:
Acknowledge the Risks: Climbing and mountaineering activities have inherent risks of personal injury or death, which can result from a variety of factors, including but not limited to: equipment failure, falling, rockfall, slips, trips, and human error. As a participant, you are responsible for being aware of and accepting these risks.
Our duty of Care: As operators, we owe you, the customer, a duty of care by law. This includes setting out rules to limit the risk of injury to you and others. These rules are not negotiable, and if you fail to follow them, we may ask you to leave. We reserve the right to make changes to the rules at any time.
Your Duty of Care: You also have a duty of care to act responsibly toward others, following our rules and any ‘Good Practice’ statements posted around the centre. If you fail to do so, we may ask you to leave.
Soft Flooring: The soft flooring beneath the bouldering walls is designed to provide a more comfortable landing, but it does not make climbing any safer. Broken and sprained limbs are common on this type of wall despite the soft landing. You must take responsibility for your own safety and assess the risks before climbing.
Climbing Beyond Your Capabilities: Climbing beyond your capabilities is likely to result in a fall, and any fall may result in injury despite the safety systems in place to avoid it. You must assess your own capabilities and act responsibly to avoid injury.
Unsupervised Climbing: Before climbing unsupervised, you must be competent in safety procedures, and the risks involved. You must also complete a waiver documenting your understanding of the above. Anyone who has not registered is classed as a novice and must not climb.
Supervised Climbing: An adult who has registered may supervise up to two novice climbers as long as they take full responsibility for their safety. Groups of three or more novices must only be supervised by a member of staff with the relevant training.
Children: All children in the centre must be supervised by an adult unless they have been assessed and completed the 14+ program.
In order to keep all customers as safe as possible please always adhere to the following rules when at our centre
By following these safety guidelines, you can help ensure a safe and enjoyable bouldering experience for yourself and others. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to ask a staff member for assistance.
